Actor Russell Crowe supports Christchurch Earthquake Appeal

Actor Russell Crowe has leant his support to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, calling for Christchurch’s mates to help keep the city’s spirit alive.

“Christchurch continues to hurt. Almost 200 people have died, many homes have been destroyed, Cantabrians are traumatised and in shock. And yet, a special kind of Christchurch spirit has risen from the rubble,” Mr Crowe said in a filmed appeal after visiting Christchurch.

“To keep that spirit of hope and community alive, Christchurch needs its mates, whether they happen to be here in New Zealand or across the ditch or on the other side of the world.”

Mark Weldon, the Prime Minister's personal representative on the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, echoed Mr Crowe’s call for support.

“The devastation caused by the Christchurch earthquake has prompted people around the world to ask how they can help the community get back on its feet.

“All who have visited Christchurch will tell you the same thing: while there is incredible resilience and positivity everywhere, the task ahead of us to rebuild the city, and community, is huge.

“The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal is a way people can make a real difference to people’s lives there.”

“We’re grateful to Mr Crowe for offering to help raise awareness in this way.”
